Fiori Elements Development

There is a great demand of Fiori/UI5 developers in the industry but as an ABAPer we are still worried about how to start. Especially because of the words HTML, CSS, Java Script, AJAX etc. In fact, this fear is somehow correct as ABAPers are not that exposed to these frontend stuff that much. Are you one of them??

So, don’t fear when Fiori Elements is here.

What SAP says they are developing 80% of apps based on Fiori Elements Technology which does not require us to be Java Script expert.

Even nowadays SAP is mostly trying to adopt Template based development approach such as Yeoman templates even for their Freestyle SAP UI5 development from scratch. These template-based approaches really help build apps with less effort flawlessly.

SAP Fiori elements is a framework that comprises the most used floorplan templates and is designed to:

  • Speed up development by reducing the amount of frontend code needed to build SAP Fiori apps.
  • Drive UX consistency and compliance with the latest SAP Fiori design guidelines.
  • Adapt based on Annotations.
  • To help follow Fiori Design Principles automatically.

The following floorplans are available as SAP Fiori elements templates:

Going forward in this tutorial series we will cover these one by one with annotations.

Now the question of the hour is what is the pre-requisite for Fiori App Development?

  • Obviously, Zeal to learn 😊.
  • Good knowledge of CDS, AMDP, Table function as CDS is the data model for Fiori Development and this is also the Hot Cake. (We will create a tutorial series on CDS as well)
  • Good command over Annotations in CDS as well as Annotation Modeller.
  • Knowledge of manifest. son file in Web IDE.
  • Knowledge of BOPF (Business Object Processing Framework) for designing Transactional Apps.

We have set the context of Fiori Elements based development in this tutorial. In the next part we will start with the development of List Report Application. Till then Keep Learning Keep Sharing!
